MARISSA MULLEN is a best-selling author, entrepreneur, food stylist and creative. She is the founder of That Cheese Plate - a global community for cheese plate inspiration and creative food styling - and is known for pioneering the cheese and charcuterie trend in popular culture today. Previously hailing from a background in the entertainment industry, Marissa established her career working for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and with acts such as Jon Batiste, The Roots and Meghan Trainor. Cheese and cooking have always been passions of Marissa’s, inspiring her to create That Cheese Plate in 2013, and in 2019 she left her job in music to pursue That Cheese Plate full-time.
Marissa is also the creator of the Cheese By Numbers Method, a step-by-step approach to styling a unique cheese and charcuterie spread. In addition to photography and recipe development, Marissa teaches That Cheese Class, the original “build your own board” workshop and spent two years as the Resident Cheese Contributor at Food52. Her debut cookbook, That Cheese Plate Will Change Your Life focuses on how crafting a cheese plate can be a grounding, meditative activity. This book has inspired many, awarded with Amazon’s Editor’s Pick for 2020 and listed on Wall Street Journal's Best-Seller List with over 250,000 copies in print. Her second cookbook, That Cheese Plate Wants To Party was released in 2023. This how-to guide will turn any gathering into a cheese-filled opportunity for connection, featuring forty new cheese boards for parties of all kinds, thoughtful drink pairings, color themes, floral arrangement tips, tablescape ideas, and even musical playlists. By modernizing and demystifying the concept of a dinner party, Mullen’s second cookbook takes the art of mindful plating to the next level by turning self-care communal.
With her skillful abilities to curate experiences in the world of entertainment and food, Marissa is dedicated to bringing people together through cooking, creativity and artistic expression. Her podcast Diving In, hosted with Leslie Mosier, touched upon the vulnerabilities behind the entertainment industry, such as impostor syndrome, comparison and authenticity. She is an advocate for mental health in the creator space.
